How will the higher education system adapt curricula to cultivate AI talent with practical capabilities?

“If we talk about AI capabilities, I think there are basically two kinds,” Stella Christie, Vice Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, said in an interview with SFC.

“The first one is that how can you actually educate the generations at the universities to be able to evaluate AI. They should be able to understand AI and evaluate them, and the evaluation is what's critical. ”

“The second kind is to equip them with practical things, which are not in a level like coding, because AI is even already better at that,” she added. People should “think about what the industry needs and specific skills from the industry that are matched with the AI capability that will create absorption in the job markets.”

Although Christie believes that talents in the AI era need to have both abilities, she believes that the most important thing is to cultivate talents who can evaluate AI.

In her capacity as Vice Minister, Christie's vision includes transforming higher education to meet the demands of the digital era, advocating for AI literacy, and eliminating the stigma associated with vocational education by promoting applied sciences as integral to national development.
