The 2024 Guangdong High-quality Development Conference is being held on February 18 in Shenzhen, the city born by innovation. As the "first conference of the new year", it highlights Guangdong's commitment to high-quality economic development.

In an exclusive interview with SFC, Brian Coulton, Chief Economist of Fitch Ratings emphasized that China probably now moves beyond the third stage of growth, where the urbanization process, the capital investment that goes with that automatically generates growth of 5% to 7%.

 “So I think it makes sense for policy to focus more on improving productivity and the quality of growth,” Brian Coulton suggested. He considers the structural shifts, including the move to renewables and electric vehicles, etc., will help the economic growth of China in long term.
