The annual meeting of the China Development Forum (CDF) 2023, which started in Beijing on March 25, drew to a close on Monday.
Speaking at a meeting with foreign representatives at the forum, Premier Li Qiang reaffirmed China's commitment to maintaining a proper rate of economic growth while striving for better quality, and more efficient and robust drivers of economic growth through reforms, to achieve higher-quality development.
The Chinese economy, after steady growth over the past decade, has served as both a ballast for and propeller of the global economy, and injected more certainty to world peace and development.
Stressing China's economy has been deeply integrated into the global division of labor, the premier said Beijing will align itself with high-standard international economic and trade rules, steadily expand institutional opening-up and foster a world-class business environment that is market-oriented, law-based and internationalized.
And Minister of Industry and Information Technology Jin Zhuanglong said at the forum that China will encourage domestic enterprises to integrate more deeply into global industrial and supply chains, and strengthen the coordination and allocation of resources in key industries such as semiconductors.
Jin said optimizing and stabilizing the industrial chain and supply chain cannot be separated from the smooth and efficient circulation of industrial resources around the world.
For many senior executives of multinational companies, this year's CDF is the one of the most important stops in their trip back to China after three years. Confident about the vast potential of the Chinese market, they have expressed their excitement over development opportunities presented by China's robust recovery.
Sharon Thorne, chair of Deloitte Global Board of Directors, said that the development policies introduced by China's central government have injected optimism into the market and restored confidence in the economy.
Foreign businesses have also shared how their strategies and operation integrate with China's development goals. For example, AstraZeneca has established exciting new partnerships in China over the past week, according to CEO Pascal Soriot. The firm's objectives in science and technological innovation and sustainable green development are in line with China's development goals, Soriot noted.
Meanwhile, Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao have met with 11 global executives during the forum, including Apple CEO Tim Cook, Corning Inc CEO Wendell P Weeks, Procter & Gamble CEO Jon Moeller, Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla and Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon. Wang extended a welcome to foreign businesses to invest in China, and promising a better, more transparent and improved business environment.

“这里有不容错过的未来机遇，中国市场对我们来说很重要！”贺利氏集团董事会主席兼首席执行官凌瑞德说，此次中国之旅安排得紧锣密鼓，在北京参加完论坛年会后就赶往上海，将与地方政府、公司同事、业务伙伴等进行面对面交流。
在中国发展高层论坛2023年年会上，中国多个权威部门围绕推进高水平对外开放积极发声。工业和信息化部部长金壮龙27日表示，中国政府高度重视产业链供应链安全稳定。维护全球产业链供应链韧性和稳定是推动世界经济发展的重要保障，符合世界各国人民共同利益。全球已经形成“你中有我、我中有你”的产业分工格局，这是经济全球化和市场机制作用的结果。产业链供应链不断延伸和拓展，带动各国产业扩大交流合作，为世界带来了经济繁荣和财富增长。
而在年会举行的4天时间，商务部部长王文涛也马不停蹄地会见了11名外企“掌门”，包括太古集团执行总裁施铭伦，苹果公司首席执行官库克，溢达集团董事长杨敏德，雀巢集团首席执行官施奈德，宝马集团董事长齐普策，梅赛德斯—奔驰集团董事长康林松，高通总裁兼首席执行官安蒙，开云集团董事会主席兼首席执行官皮诺，辉瑞公司董事长兼首席执行官艾伯乐，康宁公司董事会主席、首席执行官魏文德以及宝洁公司董事长、总裁兼首席执行官詹慕仁等。
王文涛27日会见苹果公司CEO库克时强调，中国坚定不移推进高水平开放，稳步推动规则、规制、管理、标准等制度型开放，愿为包括苹果公司在内的外资企业提供良好的环境和服务。
The Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) officially kicked off its annual conference in Boao, South China's Hainan Province on Tuesday. In its annual report on Asia's economic outlook and integration released today, the BFA said the weighted real GDP growth rate of Asia in 2023 is likely to reach 4.5 percent, up from 4.2 percent in 2022, making the region a standout performer amid global economic slowdown. To deal with some critical issues facing Asia's development, the report called for "significant attention" to the resilience of Asian economies, reconfiguration of industrial chains, climate change responses and implementation of regional trade agreements. In a separate report on sustainable development, the BFA also warned of massive development challenges amid multiple crises in low- and middle- income Asian countries, urging both the public and private sector to provide funds for the sustainable development in the area.

Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and his delegation arrived in Guangzhou on Monday for a 6-day visit to China in his third visit to Guangdong as prime minister. In the afternoon, he visited Guangzhou International Bio Island on a driverless bus and visited Chinese driverless technology startup WeRide’s headquarter in the city. According to a statement by the prime minister's office, Lee will then travel to Hainan Province as well as Beijing. In Hainan, he will attend and deliver a speech at the Boao Forum for Asia.
李显龙再访广东：3月27日，新加坡总理李显龙抵达广州，开始对中国进行为期六天的国事访问，期间李显龙将到访北京、广东广州和海南博鳌。这也是李显龙就任新加坡总理以来第三次访粤，距离他上一次来到广东已经过去9年。据报道，李显龙及夫人当天中午抵埗，随后前往文远知行总部参观了解公司的自动驾驶技术。
China National Offshore Oil, one of China’s three oil giants, and UK petrochemical titan Shell signed a 52.1 billion yuan investment agreement yesterday for the third phase of an ethylene project in Guangdong’s Huizhou. CNOOC and Shell Petrochemicals, a 50:50 joint venture between CNOOC and Shell, will build ethylene pyrolysis equipment with an annual capacity of 1.6 million tons and 18 devices for downstream chemicals, along with supporting public works, storage and transportation, fire protection, and flare systems, said CNOOC.

China filed 19,041 patent applications at the European Patent Office (EPO) in 2022, an increase of 15.1 percent compared to 2021 and is among the top five countries with the most patent applications for 2022 at the EPO, according to its Patent Index 2022 released on Tuesday. Most inventions for which Chinese companies filed patent applications in 2022 were surrounding digital communication and computer technology. Semiconductors patents recorded an increase of 53.6 percent, moving China into second position at the EPO after the US in the sector. In the overall company ranking, Huawei was also the largest patent applicant, ahead of LG and Qualcomm with over 4500 filings.

Alibaba founder Jack Ma has reportedly returned to China in a rare public appearance after more than a year overseas, media reported on Monday. Ma appeared in a visit to Yungu School on Monday, a private school he founded in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province. Ma said that technologies such as ChatGPT have brought challenges to education and ChatGPT is only the beginning of the AI era, according to the school in an online post. The tycoon had largely stayed out of the media spotlight since late 2020 and had been spotted in Japan, Australia and Thailand before coming back to China.

DeepWay, an intelligent heavy truck joint venture between Chinese search engine giant Baidu and commercial vehicle logistics firm Lionbridge Financial Leasing, has closed a 779 million yuan financing round. The Series A+ fundraiser was led by Chinese textile giant Weiqiao Pioneering Group and SoftBank China Venture Capital, Beijing-based DeepWay announced today. Existing investors, including Qiming Venture Partners, also took part. The proceeds of the fundraiser will be used for smart new-energy heavy truck manufacturing and high-level intelligent driving system development, the company said.

Proceeds from initial public offerings on the Chinese mainland stock exchanges plunged 70 percent in the first three months from the same period a year earlier, but most of the stocks gained in value on their debut. Some 54.4 billion yuan was raised by IPOs between Jan. 1 and March 27, far below last year’s 179.9 billion yuan, according to data platform Wind Information. Sixty-two companies went public over the period, compared with 86 a year earlier.
一季度A股IPO融资544亿：今年一季度IPO市场的新股数量与新股融资金额，较上年同期均呈现明显下滑。Wind数据显示，截止到3月27日，两市共计有62只新股发行上市，合计募资金额为543.96亿元。去年同期，这两项数据分别为86家、1798.73亿元。

Chinese stocks fell on Tuesday, dragged lower by information technology companies. The benchmark Shanghai Composite dipped 0.2 percent and the Shenzhen Component slid 0.7 percent. Hong Kong stocks, on the other hand, was in line with the rebound in global markets as fears of a crisis in the banking sector eased, with the Hang Seng index up 1.1 percent and the TECH index gaining 0.9 percent.
