How Low-Altitude Economy Powers Up Guangdong Manufacturing?

From a trending term two years ago to an industry gaining real traction this past year, the low-altitude economy is building serious momentum for deeper growth.

Guangdong is one of China's pacesetters in the low-altitude economy. Recent data from the 2026 Guangdong Provincial Government Work Report underscores the progress it has made in this field: in 2025, Guangdong's drone output increased by 39% year-on-year, accounting for 90% of China's total production. The number of low-altitude takeoff and landing sites in Guangdong reached 3,592, and its annual flight volume surpassed 20.61 million sorties.

From ground takeoff to cloud-based control, the broad prospects of Guangdong's emerging low-altitude economy are gradually unfolding.

Guangdong is propelling its "new Guangdong tech products" up the global value chain through technological innovation, continuing to write a new chapter of high-quality development for Chinese manufacturing.

Currently, Guangdong's low-altitude economy has reached a scale of over 100 billion yuan. The province is home to over 2,000 low-altitude aircraft manufacturers and over 15,000 related enterprises, accounting for more than 30% of China's total — ranking first nationwide. In addition, Guangdong holds about 70% of the global consumer drone market and half of the industrial drone market worldwide.

Looking ahead, what can we expect to see in this emerging sector in 2026? 

Headquartered in Guangzhou, EHang is the world's first company to obtain the full set of airworthiness certificates for its unmanned passenger aircraft and secured a commercial operation license in 2025.
