Recently, the first extra-large bridge in the first phase of Sino-Thai railway cooperation project, which is designed according to China's railway technical standards, has been erected from Bangkok to Nakhon Ratchasima. Since the signing of the contract for section 4-3 of Sino-Thai railway project in March last year, China State Construction Engineering Corporation has been vigorously promoting the construction.

The section 4-3 of Sino-Thai Railway Project is the only section of 11 sections that have been signed at present, which is undertaken by a Chinese-funded enterprise. Focusing on the cooperation and layout between China and Thailand under the framework of the Belt and Road initiative, the improvement of interconnection level and transportation effect brought by the completion of Sino-Thai railway, and the impact of Sino-Thai railway construction on local traffic, tourism and people's livelihood, 21st century business herald reporter interviewed Wang Yinfei, chairman of China Construction Thailand Corporation.

21st Century Business Herald: How do you look forward to the improvement of interconnection level and transportation effect brought by the completion of China-Thailand Railway?

Wang Yinfei: In Thailand, we can deeply understand that the Belt and Road initiative is highly related and compatible with Thailand's development. The Belt and Road initiative connect with the "Thailand 4.0 Strategy" and the plan of the Eastern Economic Corridor. We will pay close attention to and actively follow up the Belt and Road initiative, optimizing the "six corridors, six roads, multi-country and multi-port" strategy, to improve China-neighboring infrastructure interconnection and capacity cooperation. And we will conduct business on this basis.

21st Century Business Herald: How do local people feel and evaluate the construction of China-Thai railway? What changes will the project bring to the local?

Wang Yinfei: Thailand's railway adopted the meter gauge system for nearly a hundred years, and hasn’t undergone major transformation for decades. It was not until nearly ten years that the Thai government began to change single-track railway to double-track railway. However, this is only a common railway reconstruction.

China-Thailand Railway adopts Chinese norms and standards throughout the journey, which is designed at a speed of 250 kilometers per hour. This is a qualitative leap for the infrastructure construction in Thailand. These are two completely different railway construction concepts. In the past six months since the completion of the China-Laos Railway, Thailand has obviously experienced the promotion of the railway to economic development. The Thai government also hopes that the China-Thai Railway will be connected with China and promote the interconnection with ASEAN countries.

21st Century Business Herald: How does China State Construction Engineering Corporation(CSCEC)evaluate the cooperation between China and Thailand under the framework of the Belt and Road initiative? What other construction plans and layouts will CSCEC have in the countries along the Belt and Road initiative in the future?

Wang Yinfei: China-Thailand Railway is the representative project of China and Thailand to build the Belt and Road initiative. It serves as an important bridge between ASEAN integration and China-ASEAN integration, and is of great significance to the economic cooperation between China and neighboring countries, especially the future-oriented economic integration.

After the completion of the China-Thailand Railway, the railway connection between Thailand and Southwest China will be realized, forming a safe, smooth, efficient and economical railway transportation network with Southeast Asian countries. Moreover, the China-Thailand Railway effectively promotes the exchanges and cooperation in trade, investment, logistics, tourism, science and technology and culture among countries along the Belt and Road initiative.
